Langdon Hall, located in Cambridge, Ontario, is part of Relais & Chateaux, a global association of prestigious, culinary-focused hotels. With a rich history as a private estate, the facility was transformed into a hotel in 1989. In 2016, the facility underwent an addition, adding an expansive spa and guest suites.

Challenges

M.A. Bryan Engineering selected LG’s variable refrigerant flow (VRF) technology as the building’s heating and cooling solution. The Langdon Hall addition included spa treatment rooms, retail space, administrative offices, and guest suites, each presenting unique comfort demands. Additionally, as a world-class destination, the solutions implemented had to meet the exacting standards of the clientele. Consequently, air distribution and sound quality became crucial factors in the system selection process.

The Solution

In collaboration with M.A. Bryan Engineering and Reitzel Heating & Air Conditioning, we chose LG’s VRF air-source heat pump system. This heat recovery solution was ideal as it offers flexibility for each space to set temperature requirements, irrespective of occupancy. The heat recovery units enhance efficiency by transferring energy throughout the building, thereby reducing the workload on the compressors.

Additionally, with a wide variety of indoor unit configurations available, we were able to select the most suitable air-handling solutions for optimal performance in each distinct area of the hotel.

Our Approach

Our team worked closely with M.A. Bryan Engineering and Reitzel Heating & Air Conditioning to ensure that the VRF system met the unique demands of each space. By conducting thorough assessments of the hotel’s varied environments and consulting on the best unit configurations, we tailored the HVAC solutions to deliver comfort while maintaining the hotel’s high standards.

Conclusion

The successful implementation of LG’s VRF system at Langdon Hall exemplifies our commitment to delivering innovative and efficient HVAC solutions tailored to unique environments. Our collaboration with M.A. Bryan Engineering and Reitzel Heating & Air Conditioning ensured that the hotel continues to meet the comfort expectations of its esteemed clientele.
