Staybridge Suites is opening a brand-new hotel in Port Elgin, providing out-of-town workers with long-term stays and more home comforts. With the hotel breaking ground in mid-2021, they needed outdoor air units that could meet specific performance and budgetary requirements.
Challenges
The primary challenge was to provide outdoor air units that met the project’s performance specifications and sound requirements while staying within the owner’s budget. The specified unit was known for being noisy due to belt-driven centrifugal AF fans and standard motors on their staged condenser fans, necessitating additional sound-attenuating measures.
The Solution
O’Dell Associates provided a cost-savings package that was below the owner’s budget. The majority of the cost savings came from the two (2) main rooftop ERV’s, which were 6,800 cfm each with gas heating and DX cooling. The cost savings back to the owner was $175,000.00.

Our Approach
Not only were we able to meet every note and specification from the schedule, but we also exceeded many performance criteria, including sound requirements. By utilizing Valent’s plenum fans on the supply and return air and adding an EC motor option to the low sound condenser fans, the need for the sound attenuating curb and silencers was eliminated. This innovative approach addressed the engineer’s concern about noise and met all sound requirements.
